PhotoWaypoint Help

From the first photograph to a confirmed location.

Setup and everyday guidance for PhotoWaypoint. For troubleshooting or direct help, visit Support.

Before you begin

Use the iPhone app to record your route and the Mac app to geotag RAW photographs from Hasselblad, Sony, and Leica cameras. Sign both devices into the same Apple Account for private iCloud synchronization. Have Lightroom Classic ready on the Mac and import your RAW photographs before applying GPS.

1. Record a Photo Day or Photo Trip

Before photographing, open PhotoWaypoint and choose Start Photo Day. Allow the location access requested for background recording and enable Precise Location. For longer travel, create a two-to-fourteen-day Photo Trip. Check GPS health before the shoot. You can pause and resume recording; a pause leaves a gap in the route.

2. Align your camera clock

For a reference, take a photograph and immediately tap I Just Took the Reference Photo on iPhone. On Mac, select that exact RAW photograph for the saved marker. Confirm the camera time zone and review the calculated clock correction before matching.

3. Finish and synchronize

End Photo Day when the shoot is complete, and check that its iCloud synchronization is complete. Open the Mac app to find the completed track. If it is missing, check the Apple Account and iCloud permissions on both devices.

4. Import your photographs first

Import your photographs into Lightroom Classic and open the catalog that contains them. PhotoWaypoint updates photographs already in the active catalog; it does not import them into Lightroom for you.

5. Review matches on Mac

Select the Photo Day and the folder of RAW photographs from your Hasselblad, Sony, or Leica camera, confirm calibration, and choose Preview Matches. Review exact, interpolated and needs-review results. Hold back uncertain photographs instead of accepting a doubtful location.

6. Connect Lightroom and apply

Follow the Mac app’s guided Lightroom plugin installation and enable the plugin in Lightroom Classic. Send approved GPS updates with the correct catalog open. Review the completion summary for confirmed updates, preserved existing GPS and anything deferred or failed. Your original RAW photographs remain untouched.

Manage tracks carefully

Use the Mac app’s track selection to remove completed Photo Days in bulk only after reviewing the confirmation list. Deletions synchronize through your private iCloud collection. Removing a track does not remove GPS already applied in Lightroom.
